Lanterns in the Olden Days

This picture titled "Making Lanterns" by Edward Docker (1880-99) seemed very timely for today. This little lad is amazingly "shod"...those look like horse shoes on the soles of his boots, one of which is bound with some sort of tape. His little knee socks are held up by a piece of twine.

When you don't have pumpkins, use turnips!

This is certainly an example of a picture telling a story of the times.
