Forty Two Years

Playing with my BFF on her March Break. We were so much older then, we're younger than that now!

"But there isn't any sleeves!"

Just finished another attempt at knitting for Zoë. After the disaster of knitting a poncho for a two year old, I am now knitting in size 4-5. It would appear, that Ponchos have NO SLEEVES!!! This is discomfiting to those who are learning to dress themselves...
Meanwhile, some large bear will have a splendid wrap!

I love the way this "Crofter DK" variegated yarn knits up like Fair Isle without all the complicated twists.

It is wonderful knitting in itty bitty sizes...you can finish a sweater in no time.
The hardest part is putting it all together.

If you have any yarn left over and you happen to know a doggie named Myles, you could make one of these :) I'm sure there would be no objections to sleeveless in this case..just watch it...that's my tail!

Beauty Virtues

Sunday past, I attended a wonderful production of "The Sleeping Beauty" performed by the National Ballet of Canada. Prior to performances there are "ballet talks" and this one was exceptional. Even if you know the classical ballet, it is always a bonus to hear the interpretation of the company.

The Fairies gave the following virtues to the baby princess Aurora at her Christening.

Candide.... bestowed Purity

Coulante...A whirlwind of vitality

Lilac Fairy....Wisdom and Radiance

It was pointed out that being given these virtues is a wonderful gift, but in order to make them "work" one has to live them. Aurora brings all of these virtues to life. I'm thinking we should all aspire to live like this.

If you click on the link I have added, (under videos, choose 2010 rehearsal) you can watch the explanation of the "Rose Adagio" by principal dancer Heather Ogden. I can tell you that everyone in the audience holds their breath until this extremely difficult maneuver is performed and then APPLAUSE!!!!

I CANNOT WAIT to take my granddaughter to the ballet. She is already showing signs of great music and physicality.

The REAL Snow White

The REAL Snow White does play with "Little People", and "Itty Bitty Baby",...and iPads and iPhones when she can get her hands on them :)

This is where she gathers her Hollywood educational knowledge. She doesn't talk much, she's just learning all the lines right now, but just WAIT !!

The REAL Snow White NEVER takes off her dress, even when sleeping! This is why her complexion is a little "sparkly" first thing in the morning.

At Disneyland, there is always something going on. At any given time, there will be a troupe in the street performing. We were lucky enough to have Mary Poppins stroll along and strike up the band! Zoë knows this one from her vast video collection of Show Tunes and Broadway Hits :)

I did not realize my purse camera was on the black and white option, hence the rather "vintage" look to this photo.
"Robert Bernard Sherman (December 19, 1925 – March 5, 2012[1]) was an American songwriter who specialized in musical films with his brother Richard Morton Sherman. Some of the Sherman Brothers' best known songs were incorporated into movies and animations like Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Slipper and the Rose, Charlotte's Web and the theme park song of "It's a Small World (After All).

While at Disney, the Sherman Brothers wrote what may be their most successful song: "it's a small world (after all)," for the 1964 New York World's Fair. Since then, "it's a small world (after all)" has become the most translated and performed song on Earth"

One of Zoë's favourite tunes. At some point you can't stand it anymore and you have to step in time! I think she actually can say it backwards !! Is this not what Disney is all about???

My very pertinent Theme Song...

I am back to workout class once a week at this point. "Beach Music" is my favourite and singing along with the lyrics, it became quite apparent that this really IS my theme song!

Here are a few more "little old ladies" that happen to reside in Pasadena not far off Colorado Boulevard at the Huntington Galleries.

I'm wondering if this "Mrs. Playfair" is distantly related.

Not to be outdone by the star attraction "Blue Boy"...here is
"Miss Pinkie"

And this is the song that will keep me fit enough to make a return trip ...soon I hope!

It's so springlike that....

Yesterday, while waiting for The Professor to come to the car, I spied an unusual sight. Students up a tree in the circle. I do hope they were discussing Evolutionary Biology. They certainly will be if anyone recognizes them!

Or how to stay cool in the California sun...

And not to be outdone..the good old drinking fountain. A classic.

Photo Shoot on the Beach

While the Professor was busy running around after Zoë, these two appeared within range of my lens. I think it tells it's own story. I was attracted by the crinoline blowing in the wind.

It's a wrap! After all of that I hope he got the crinoline in!

One Sunday at Cirque

Our first Sunday in LA, the "Little Family" invited us to a performance of "Cirque de Soleil" at the Santa Monica Pier.

Off to "Cirque"

We are so excited! We're going to "CIRQUE"

The Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel comes into view

and the roller coaster....

Ever Canadian, no matter where they are! Yeah! We're almost there

This is the production we see "OVO" Fantastique! Magnifique!

Captured on my iPhone camera in very dark conditions. This is how Zoë reacted to the show. She sat entranced through the entire performance!
Pretty great attention span for a 2 year old!

She LOVED it! So did we :)

Game on at Venice Beach

March 5th. and it is FREEZING here. Remembering a particularly active picnic at Venice Beach. This is when it's best to BE the photographer :)

There is a ledge where the sandy beach plunges down to the water. The Professor and Zoë had been dabbling at the water's edge and coming back for lunch. Zoë needed a little help getting up the incline.

And she's off! Now who needs help? GAME ON PAPI!

Makeup case, wallets, passport, phone, miscellaneous ...you got it! It's BIG. It weighs nothing to start with so that is the best part. It also fits under the aircraft seat!
