Summer Nights

Anything by John Singer Sargent is perfect by me. This one is a particular favourite. I may have to light a few lanterns some clear summer evening.

  1. A lovely scene, a magical painting! The girls appear to be lighting the lanterns, how did they keep from bursting into flames??

  2. I know David. I've always wondered about this, I have to assume that there are darling little glass hurricanes inside those paper lanterns. Surely the Edwardians were clever like that!
