"Gareth Malone OBE (born Bournemouth, 1975) is a British choirmaster and broadcaster, self-described as an "animateur, presenter and populariser of choral singing". He is best known for his television appearances in programmes such as The Choir which focus on singing and introducing choral music to new participants. Malone was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2012 Birthday Honours for services to music."
If you can possibly find his show (in our area TVO) watch "The Choir". This young man will make your heart sing, and you might even want to join a choir!
He takes the most improbable people, young obstreperous boys, downcast villages, struggling teen girls, who have little experience with choral music, and in a short time, transforms their lives and those of their families. The results are astounding! I've been watching this show for a few years, but this particular episode was just so very special I wanted to share.
Note the one young Mum who brings her baby to choir, and the soloist....that is such progress. It's one thing to sing in a group, quite another to do it in public. Way to go ladies!
I know you'll enjoy this show, Gareth is to music what Jamie Oliver is to food. Energy, innovative and inspiring.
