Happy Thanksgiving USA

Happy Thanksgiving to family and friends south of the border. We'll raise a glass to you tonight and hope that you have lots to be thankful for.

My little barrow of herbs continues to bloom despite falling temps and forecast flurries. The Rosemary makes me wish for lamb chops.

The nest is empty. Everyone has flown the coop. Time to rake up the leaves and put the garden to bed once and for all.

Double the Fun

We decided to take the GO train downtown yesterday as there were one million people estimated to attend the annual Santa Claus Parade. The Professor takes the train every day so he knows the drill and he has a pass.

It was a cool but clear and sunny day. The perfect day for a parade, and a ballet, and a Raptor's game and a football game being played in Montreal, but devotees dressed in Argo Blue were also a pretty enthusiastic bunch headed for the bars. I got the last seat and the Professor stood. He's good like that.

This young man captured my attention while we waited in one of the shelters track-side. He was oblivious to everything but his art and his music. I loved watching him shade with his stabillo pencils.

Alice in Wonderland. This was my main event. Second time around it was even more perfect.

The ballet talk was wonderful and interpreted some of the fun to come. Love the hat.

Lots of people attend the pre performance talk. The space is on the stairway in the Sony Centre. It is full of light and windows. The parade is also starting!

Just before the call to theatre bells, the first of the parade passed. What a perfect vantage point to see it all.

At the interval, the parade progressed and the cast came out to sign programs. The frog footmen are a favourite.

"When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick."

Santa waved to us all as we were just about on the same level!

I hope this happens some day when Zoë is old enough to attend the ballet. There always seems to be a ballet performance when there's a parade. The next one is St. Patrick's Day!

A bit early

The Christmas cacti have decided to be like everyone else and start the season off early. I'm not complaining, after all I've nursed these hummers for a year in hopes that blooms would arrive. Tomorrow is the Santa Claus parade in Toronto and I refuse to do any Christmas thinking until after the US Thanksgiving.

More blooms to come.

When you really Believe

Look at this door! It says W. Rabbit. Is this really where Alice's White Rabbit lives?

He has to be in there. Perhaps if I knock gently and call him.

No really, Mr. Rabbit, please come out, I know you have to be in there.

Happy Birthday Pooch

It seems like only can the time fly by so quickly? My beautiful son. He's always been the quiet one, but his strength is remarkable.

I stole these pictures that Rach took while on their latest adventures in Scotland. It's very difficult to get a serious picture of this boy. Thanks with all my heart Rach. You captured him perfectly. Happy happy day sweet boy, I can't wait to spend more time with you soon.

You can click on them for the bigger size.'s a word!

The Latest Fashion

I think I'll do this to my hair. I sometimes see people with these interesting streaks of fabulous colours in their hair and think..."I wonder if I would dare???" I must find the particular painting that this goes with and frame it.

The Question is....

Whenever a baby is born, we try to decide "who do they look like?" I'm really not sure. Guess the proof is in the pictures. I converted Zoë and Luca's pictures to black and white as the only similar profile of their mother was in black and white film. How things have changed in 30 some odd years. I have no photo of daddy as a newborn.

Zoë Jane

Luca Gerard

There is definitely a resemblance of some sort. Can't wait to see how this all shapes up!

Every One is Home

Every one is home now. They are home. We are home. Luca is home. It's all good.

All the little fingers

Luca was born on Sunday morning at 2a.m. Therefore they were not discharged until Tuesday afternoon. He spent a bit of time on the "lights" to get the levels up and no jaundice.

He gamely devised his own solution for being pinned in a bed with a hat on! Little Houdini this one.

He is the sweetest little boy you can imagine. Here he is being swaddled and cuddled in Papi's arms only 4 days old.

What colour eyes will this boy have. I'm thinking they might stay dark like Daddy's. Or then again there is a little glint of blue in them like Mummy and Zoë. It will be fun to watch and predict.

The little family will be busy the next few weeks getting into the rhythm of a new cast member. Luckily Jane has until after the New Year to be home and lending all the equipment needed to nest and adjust.

We'll see him/them all again at Christmas time if we can make arrangements to swing down for few days. How lovely will Disneyland be at that time ???? :)

A New Grandson

Luca Gerard Tarabokia arrived November 4, 2012 at 2:37 a.m.
7lbs. 3oz. 19.5 inches long.

"Luca" is named for Michael's ancestor, the first Tarabokia to arrive in America. Gerard is Michael's dad. A nice family touch for a sweet little lad.

Jane and baby will be discharged on Tuesday afternoon.

Zoë was very eager to meet her new little brother, and was very sweet and gentle with him.

It was difficult for Zoë to leave everyone and come home without the new baby brother, but declares he's a keeper!

We are now resorting to "The Salad"

The Professor and I have not been wasting time since our arrival in OCTOBER! The baby was due on October 26th, and in an effort of controlled expediency we arrive in LA on Thursday October 25th. Friday the 26th. nothing happening.

Saturday the 27th. is dance class and you all saw the results of that plus a little walking and shopping results.

Sunday, October 28th. and I decide that a little post-Canadian, pre-American Thanksgiving might do the trick. Turkey, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, stuffing, gravy, Pumpkin pie and whipped cream. NOTHING.

Monday the Professor and I do a few errands and come back and help decorate the nursery. There is now a jungle theme for the little guy which is so totally appropriate. For sure this is will help.

Tuesday, the grandparents take Zoe to the LA Zoo. All the animals over there have given birth. I was wishing Jane had been with us in the caboose of the bumpy tram ride! They were just fine at home.

Wednesday, October 31 is a particularly busy day with carving pumpkins, fired-up preschoolers anticipating candy, and it is decided we will try and walk Jane around Santa Monica! That night we all had a grand time watching Zoe interact in the dark with her friends and neighbours while Jane stayed home and ate all the Kit Kats!....I must say we couldn't have handled one more thing that day, so just was well "He" didn't come that day.

BUT and this is a BIG's now NOVEMBER!

Seems like the best thing is for Mamère and Papi to take Zoë back to Disneyland. This will work for sure. If we get gone to Anaheim, that kid will be furious and want to be here.

So, now it's 7 days the grandparents have been paying attention and once again we have a 2 year old who only makes the height restriction for part of the rides, but we gamely go on all of them again, thinking....for SURE they'll call from the Doctor's appointment saying she's being induced! Somewhere in the depths of the Pinocchio ride line-up the Professor is wildly flailing his arms to get my attention. Jane reports that ALL IS FINE. FINE.

Autopia bumpy car ride, Alice's Adventure, The twirling tea cups, Dumbo, The carousel, Pinocchio's adventure, Peter Pan's adventure, meet with Mickey Mouse, Finding Nemo submarines, Mr. Toad's Wild ride, lunch, 18 million gift shops, the night time parade....the outdoor tram ride back to the parking lot. At this point I swear I could have given birth myself had I thought hard about it!!!!

The Docs are waiting until at least Monday, November 5th. But likely the baby will come before that. They've monitored everything, it's all perfect, just not ready yet.

This is where the salad comes in. Yesterday, Someone at the park told Michael about a restaurant that sells a 'maternity salad' and it worked for them. The restaurant is situated 45 minutes from home, but I told them to get going immediately! Michael and Larry started out and got in some traffic snarl up and then worried that if things got really bad Michael might miss the birth of his son, so THEY TURNED AROUND!!!!

I'm just on my way over there to pack the baby bag, put them in the car and send then off for lunch at Caioti's. They purport that things happen 12-15 hours after eating the salad.

Maternity Salad

Make sure you watch the video....

While they do that, we're back to dance class and looking into changing our flights! We WERE due to fly back on Thursday, so we might have to stay a little longer. We'll see how the salad goes. I'm hoping for a Sunday Grandson!

And now for the spooky part

It will be a NOVEMBER boy!!!

Not even the spooks started a new baby on the way!!

Here's where we are, in the vintage area of Venice...pretty spooky in and of itself.

Well, it wasn't ALL spooky ALL the time...unless of course you consider this fellow a bit SPOOKY. I certainly do :) Really. Notice the blur in the window in the background??? that's SPOOKY....she's still here!!!

First house is always the house next door where everybody knows your name.

Doesn't take long to get the gist of this game!

Some people will do anything for candy!

This is probably my favourite picture of the evening. Zoë decided just to join in with all the girls running from house to house. It was so very sweet, and exciting for her. The odd thing is that if you look who is taking up the rear to the left bottom of the photo...isn't that a friendly ghost joining in the rush???
