What's Shakin' on the Big Island?

More about him later.

Notice the price of that avocado? $4.00 each. Yup. $8.00/gallon of milk! Spam???

Rambutan. Like Lychee, grapey, gummy white fruit inside

On our way to Kona.....the sunny side of the street!

If you need something inspiring to watch

Yesterday we had a snow-day and after many sessions of terribly heavy snow removal (on the Professor's behalf) we decided to watch a movie. Although we have every bell and whistle ever invented for t.v. viewing, we could not find anything that appealed to us. Flipping through the documentary section we came across
a "Rotten Tomatoes" highly rated film. I have no idea why I have never heard of this before, possibly because it's about football. It did win an academy award!

""Set in the inner-city of Memphis, Undefeated chronicles the Manassas Tigers' 2009 football season, on and off-the-field, as they strive to win the first playoff game in the high school's 110-year history. A perennial whipping boy, in recent decades Manassas had gone so far as to sell their home games to the highest bidder, but that all changed in the spring of 2004 when Bill Courtney, a former high school football coach turned lumber salesman, volunteered to lend a hand." -- (C) Weinstein "

This is such an inspirational movie on so many levels. Everyone will love it. I will never forget Bill Courtney or this movie. If you get a chance to see it, I promise you will not be disappointed. Don't shy away because it's about football, it is, but so much more. Something to think about.

Hilo Hawaii - The Big Island

Hilo is the wet side of the island. The volcano side. The wet side. The rainy side.

It is therefore no mystery why one wants to get into the cocktails...a little pineapple here...

a spicy volcano here....

Normally it is difficult to catch the rain on camera....not here! Click to embiggen!

The result of all this rain....supposed to be rainbow falls, but no one has ever seen a rainbow..perhaps because there is NO sun???

The fish don't mind. Either do we! It's very romantic rain. Really.

Honolulu Hiking and Whales

Still getting used to this new Blogger format for photos. I think you can click on the picture to enlarge.

This is what we all are in Hawaii.  Malihini.

The famous protected coral at Hanauma Bay.  The Professor and Mark did some splendid snorkeling and got quite the red head effect:)  Sun lotion guys!!!

Hiking up to whale watch.  Looking up the coast

Finally at the lighthouse level

WHALES (that black shadow is promising)

From the vantage of the top of the lighthouse

A Mamma and her baby!  Frolicking!!!

How lucky is this???

The north shore in the evening. A peaceful way to end an energetic day.  Watching the tide roll in.  There's a song there somewhere:)

Honolulu.....the arrival

Since our departure from snowy Toronto to Paradise in Hawaii, it would seem that Blogger has changed the rules!   They are now using the Compose option and have screwed up the HTML version. This is not what I needed whilst on the road!

To add to the confusion, we have been on the move with rare or little internet connection. We are now situated in our destination locale in Waikoloa on the Big Island of Hawaii. More later. We are taking the day to do absolutely nothing...except for Mark who has gone deep sea diving. Temperature 79F and sunny with quite a breeze. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Early morning walk in Paradise.  The birds are singing.  We are five hours behind EST time now.

Ahhhh yes!  Coffee.

The Professor insisted on trying a Spam bun.  One of the only places still serving such delicacies :)

For Dana, who right about now could use a few of these!   Happy Days Nana Dana :)
Congratulations on the birth of Ivy Kate Fisher

My kinda' place.  Even the natives like burgers.

My sentiments exactly!   Aloha.

Five Years

February 13, 2008. 5 years ago. My first blog posting!

It was conceived in Paris with the help of my daughter in our little apartment on 6 Rue du Cherche Midi in Saint-Germain-des-Près. There were too many pictures to email taking too much time, hence the blog.

I was only reminded of this during the snow storm last week. It was said that we hadn't had as much snow since the huge storm exactly five years ago. I knew I would have taken a picture of this event, and in researching, came up with the pictures of having left Mississauga in a snow storm only to arrive in Paris, just in time to climb the Eiffel tower on Valentine's day.

These are pictures I took on a magical visit to Oahu to celebrate Dana's birthday. We looked after a freind's house and two little daschunds. This time, I will be seeing some of the same things, and some new, traveling along with The Professor and nephew Mark. It will be like old times. When Mark and his sister were very little, we had them with us every summer from Princeton to Switzerland. We saw a lot of battlefields in our days together. Here we come Pearl Harbor!
Come along with me!

Mahalo for having been here so long. Here's to FIVE more???

About the boys

Got to thinking about the boy and wanted to see photos side by side.
I'm thinking there's a little Uncle Monkey in that Little Luca!

My blue eyed boys!
