June - the month of weddings

Time for tea

The Bride To Be

I was so surprised that it was the young people who wanted to wear the hats that were available

Possibly the first tea party?

The Mother of the Groom

The Grandmother of the Groom! Bess makes sure the hat is the right one. How special is that?!

Steph and her selection

The Darling Julia - the boater!

Doesn't matter how cute you are in a hat, babies win every time!

My pick

I don't watch "The Voice", but I did tune in to the finale. The performance by Usher and Michelle Chamuel was totally amazing. The powers that be have blocked the Youtube version of the performance, so this studio rendition is all there is to share. I love this young singer and can't wait to see what she does on her own next. Her glasses are the BEST! This may be my favourite version of U2's "One". Michelle really held her own singing with Usher. The winner, Danielle, was also outstanding, but you really have to be into country. Great talents all.

Ahhhhh Summer

Oh those spring blooms

What a wonderful year to be a bride and have chosen peonies for your posy! You could come to any one of a number of people's gardens this year and have your pick of the crop. It was a particularly wonderful display this year. Early and bountiful. I know that everyone has blogged about this noble flower, but now that the season is drawing to and end, I'll only post one of each of my favourites.

My Dad's favourite peony, from his garden, that he could never get to bloom. Planted it too deeply. I cherish this plant and it always performs at Father's Day.

Ah those pesky buds. How to cut? Will they open on the long stem indoors? Answer: Likely not, but according to those florists who know, cut the stem long with the bud and treat it as part of the bloom. There is some discussion about how much of the plant to cut as well. That's what is intriguing about gardening. You never stop learning.

LA Burger Wars

Will it be "Fatburger" or "IN N OUT"??

I had never been to either establishment prior to this trip. On one venture to San Diego, there was great wailing and gnashing of teeth that my niece didn't get to go to the "IN N OUT" burger in lieu of a poncy beer brewery. This time, there is a difference of opinion in the little family as to the best burger joint, so we had to try both.

The diet starts in earnest after this trip.
At the risk of starting yet another Burger War, I'd have to say that my favourite is still "5 Guys". Just saying!!! :)

Finally a Celebrity ...or two

It's always nice to find a celebrity or two over at The Grove in LA.

Mario Lopez is so pretty in real life. Jane and I were surprised. He really is gorgeous. He films a daily from The Grove. The Professor was less impressed so he and Luca wandered the avenue while we gawked and I shot pics.

Then again, if you look really closely, you can spot a few wannabe's in The American Girl Doll store too!

I'm telling you, this child is totally suited to life in Hollywood!

Helpful for Jet lag and other minor irritations

If you haven't listened to someone with a British accent telling you to watch this series, then listen to this! I just purchased Season One from iTunes as I can't get it on Canadian Netflix. Next I purchased the Christmas special. I will be proceeding soon to purchasing Season Two. It's that addictive. There is absolutely NOTHING on t.v. these days and this is great summer fun. You can even watch at 4 a.m. if you can't sleep due to Jet lag or cold symptoms.

“Whoever heard of a midwife as a literary heroine? Yet midwifery is the very stuff of drama. Every child is conceived either in love or lust, is born in pain, followed by joy or sometimes remorse. A midwife is in the thick of it, she sees it all.”
― Jennifer Worth, The Midwife: A Memoir of Birth, Joy, and Hard Times

“Love doesn't adhere to time and boundaries does it? It just is.”
― Jennifer Worth, The Midwife: A Memoir of Birth, Joy, and Hard Times

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's and Dad's-to-be. Surely a midwife was involved somewhere :)

Reading together

This looks like a great idea. Let's read together.

Luca, I'm the big sister and I'm doing the reading okay?

If only I had teeth! She's hogging the book Mamère!

Remember that new concept.... a little "cooperation" children!

That's the style! Everyone is happy now.

These are the quiet moments to cherish. Just outside, in the evening, on the back patio with the family. I already miss them all so much!

A stroll back in time

Now just in case you were thinking this was all Pollyanna....here's a little fixer upper! I can only imagine how much the repairs would cost let alone the original purchase.

It's possible this reno has been abandoned due to the neighbours!

OR, the idea of yearly painting all those little spindles at vertiginous heights!

This is the one I am moving into.

All the best friends come in the back door!

Hat Tip: Thanks to Bonnie for alerting me to this magnificent area.
